June 7 2020: Systemic Heart Failure

I have my doubts about how this one turned out but the subject matter has been weighing on me since yesterday when an emergency patient came into the animal clinic I work at. She was expanding like the blueberry girl from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

We tapped her like a keg and drained about 4 liters of fluids out over an hour and a half, during which time the vet reviewed her records and explained heart failure to me. I haven’t been able to get out of my head how delicate the whole system of our bodies is. One piece stops working right and everything compounds to come back around and make that one problem worse.

Food for thought: is the system that makes our society so different?

Day 327: The Puppy Machine

I surprised my bride with a puppy for her birthday. Her name is Whimsy.

Today’s poem is definitely inspired by her and ran a little longer than usual.

Day 249 & Day 251: Bath to Bed, Stitches

Had to hurry to scribble Saturday’s poem down at the last minute before I forgot. The words came to me quickly and kept trying to slip away.

And today we’re back to the vet because the puppy got his cone off and tore his stitches.

Day 67: Naked Puppy

Puppy got his heavy fur coat shaved today. I swear it took off about 20lbs. It’s easy to forget just how fluffy he is until we shave him down. At least he won’t have to suffer the heat, even if the poor boy looks ridiculous.
