Day 151: Long Haired Shar-Pei

This is not one of my stronger poems, but I had to get this out of my head.

Have you ever seen something and it just stuck with you? I met this sweet dog a few days ago and haven’t been able to get him out of my head. He was adorable. In that way that when something is so positively ugly and goofy looking that your brain can’t quite process it so your mental filter does a one-eighty and puts it in the opposite category.

I even included here a little sketch I doodled up. Sadly, the proportions in said sketch are pretty much 100% accurate. I swear this dog’s entire body could not have matched the sheer mass of his enormous, fluffy head.

Day 102: Chrysalis in the Cinders

I went to the park to walk my dog and de-stress from the day. It was a good day, just long and hard and I needed to unwind with my puppy.

The park backs up to some houses, one of which has a fence that is incomplete. The people who live there have a pair of dogs. They’ve gotten out before and caused some minor mischief, nothing serious. They got out again today and chased my dog, who chased them back. The woman who lives in the house came out screaming and cussing at me, furious that I dare walk my dog past her house and get her dogs riled up.

I have no idea why this bothers me as much as it does. It could be any number of combinations of things. This year, is a year of transformation and I think that right now I’m experiencing some growing pains.

Here’s to hope, to love, and to growth.

Day 81: A Simple Game

There’s an empty set of lots across from where I live. They’re my dog’s favorite place to play. Unfortunately they’ve been so overgrown lately we haven’t been able to use them. They were mowed yesterday and we were able to have a great game of fetch and I saw the face of unmitigated happiness. I’m firmly of the opinion that dogs are evidence of the divine.

(Note, the picture with this post is not my own puppy)

Day 67: Naked Puppy

Puppy got his heavy fur coat shaved today. I swear it took off about 20lbs. It’s easy to forget just how fluffy he is until we shave him down. At least he won’t have to suffer the heat, even if the poor boy looks ridiculous.
