Day 29; Impact

Well, so much for every day! Definitely missed the boat on that. Went on vacation and forgot to prioritize my poetry and take into account travel days. That said, I’m back on the horse and feeling energized!

This is going to be an epic year.

Day 13: Contamination

Our puppy is sick with Parvo. It is a dangerous virus to puppies. Fortunately, she’s doing very well and is being treated by a loving support system of amazing people. Part of the recovery process is keeping her contained while she’s positive for the virus, so that she doesn’t risk getting anyone else sick. Hence today’s poem, late though it may be…

Day 5: Re-Genesis

Feeling very meta today about the act of creation and the way we play with ideas and stories in our minds. I’ve had one in my head for half a year now, more or less stagnating, watching all my other ideas pass it by. Then a few days ago I had a new idea, one that would be a stretch to make work. It had heart and structure but lacked originality. Then came the old idea, which I think has a great concept but the characters weren’t leaping out at me and the story wasn’t wanting to shape. They came together like they were meant to be. It’s tough letting go of pieces of each of them, but the new thing is far more powerful and I can’t wait to bring it to life.

Day 240: The Purpose of the Blade

I had a conversation last night about the way we change. How sometimes we are not stretched but instead compressed. It made me think of swords, how they are forged, how they function, and what their purpose is. We as human beings are in a never ending war against entropy. Like swords, we must be forged to become strong enough to fight back, and also like swords, we are only dangerous when we are moving.

Day 72: Emotion Engine

Sometimes we get down. Not in the fun way. Sometimes we start out strong, a few things don’t go our way, and we crash.

My bride reminded me of a secret I learned a little while ago–that smiling tricks the body, the voice, and the mind. By projecting happiness into the world, we take it back in. Our spirits are fascinating engines capable of producing our own fuel.
