Well, so much for every day! Definitely missed the boat on that. Went on vacation and forgot to prioritize my poetry and take into account travel days. That said, I’m back on the horse and feeling energized!
This is going to be an epic year.

I wanted to write about the spirit of adventure this morning. This is what came out instead. Not quite what I had in mind but I don’t think it’s half bad.

Nope, I didn’t forget today’s poem. I woke up this morning, sat in my chair with my notebook and a mug of coffee…and nothing. This doesn’t happen to me. I don’t get blocked! But I did. In large part this was because I couldn’t select my subject matter. Three guesses what I finally settled on. Funny how just picking something and giving yourself permission to suck, just so long as you move forward works. Or at least that’s been my repeated experience. Anyone else?

My heart goes out to Australia, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines.

Some fascinating new ideas about the nature of consciousness in the universe, courtesy of philosopher Philip Goff and his concept of panpsychism, came out today in Scientific America, inspiring this morning’s poem.

A couple of exchanges today have me once again thinking on the nature of communication.

Our puppy is sick with Parvo. It is a dangerous virus to puppies. Fortunately, she’s doing very well and is being treated by a loving support system of amazing people. Part of the recovery process is keeping her contained while she’s positive for the virus, so that she doesn’t risk getting anyone else sick. Hence today’s poem, late though it may be…

Today’s poem brought to you courtesy of that horrible feeling that hits you in the gut about 15-30 minutes after you’ve done something that makes you ask: “did I actually do X?”

Today’s poem is brought to you courtesy of this futurism article. The short version, we’ve always thought that the universe has 4 fundamental forces that basically bind everything together: gravity, electromagnetism, and both strong and weak nuclear force. Now some scientists believe they may have discovered a fifth, one that more fully explains dark matter and deepens our understanding of how the universe really works. Pretty neat stuff!

Was thinking this morning about character agency in storytelling and how powerful a force it is. Remove it and you remove the heart and soul of the story. That got my thinking about agency in our lives. How do we express it and what happens when we do?
