2020; Day 1: Fresh Endings

Happy New Year!

Last year I set myself a goal to write a poem each day. To hold myself accountable to that goal, I established this blog. One poem a day for a year. A tall order.

I didn’t quite make it. Life happened, and with it changes, both good and bad, that made it hard to keep up with. I missed a few days, then those missing days snowballed and built up momentum. I didn’t add anything in December.

But I grew a ton! As a writer and a poet and as someone seeking to improve his self discipline, I grew. And with the conclusion of 2019 we usher in 2020 and once more I’m setting forth with the same goal. One poem a day, every day, for the entire year.

Wish me luck. Here I go!

Fresh Endings

Day 328: Chapters and Choices

Feeling rhyming and whimsical this morning. Also, I’m going to need another notebook for my poems. I thought this new one would last me until the end of the year. There’s always something fun about filling in that last page though.

Day 317: Evolving Enviros

Lots of changes around me lately. More to come I suspect.

Day 309: The Secret of Sharks

Feeling slightly Seussical this morning and reflecting on a lesson that I recently relearned.

Day 290: Morning Muse

I woke up to the wonderful sight that inspired today’s poem. If ever any evidence was needed that I married well…

Day 289: Dessert Time

Time management is at the fore of my thoughts today. So much I want to do weighed against so much I need to do. I need to find a way to make some more time.

Day 284: Fallen; Day 285: Full Deck

Didn’t post yesterday’s poem so it’s joining today’s. On Saturday our friend and neighbor, a US veteran, had to put to sleep his service dog. She had cancer and couldn’t eat anymore. This one’s for them.

Fallen

And today’s poem is me venting. I’m sure every writer or creative feels from time to time that they’re not playing with a full deck…

Day 256 & Day 257: Iron Sharpens Iron, Backroads

Another two-for-one deal today. Yesterday’s poem was inspired by an offhanded text message my bride sent. Today’s by a conversation about traveling I had with my parents.

Day 249 & Day 251: Bath to Bed, Stitches

Had to hurry to scribble Saturday’s poem down at the last minute before I forgot. The words came to me quickly and kept trying to slip away.

Bath to Bed

And today we’re back to the vet because the puppy got his cone off and tore his stitches.

Day 248: Lighthouse

I’ve been fascinated by the imagery of the lighthouse lately. Hardly an original notion, the idea of a guiding destination, but it feels especially pertinent to me lately at this stage of my creative journey.
